Must Read!! New IRS Scam Targets Those Who Owe Money to the IRS
MUST READ!! I recently received several calls from clients saying they have been contacted by someone from the IRS and that they will go to jail if they don't pay. This new scam is from a foreign individual using a local number and is very scary in its nature. These scams have just started and based on what I've recently heard, they will not end anytime soon. If you get a call from someone that says they are from the IRS, look for these techniques the scammers are using:
- These scammers use fake names and IRS badge numbers.
- These scammers may be able to recite the last four digits of your Social Security number.
- These scammers can even sometimes send bogus IRS emails to some victims to support their bogus calls.
- Victims hear background noise of other calls being conducted to mimic a call site.
The IRS will always send taxpayers a written notification of any tax due via the U.S. mail. Also, The IRS never asks for credit card or debit card information over the phone. If you owe money to the IRS and you receive a call like this, Hang up Immediately and contact the IRS, a tax attorney, or other tax professional!
