What Government Shutdown means to the IRS
How does the government shutdown affect the IRS and what does that mean for you? The government shutting down will probably not change anything for a lot of people because the IRS still requires you to file timely and make all payments.
Therefore, if you filed an extension for you 2012 personal returns, you still must file by the October 15, 2013 deadline and pay any balance due. The IRS was prepared for this shutdown and has a contingency plan in place and an outline of what affect this has. If the IRS recently sent out a levy or garnishment you are out of luck as nothing can be done.
All audits, investigations and collections will be temporarily suspended. If you need to ask the IRS any questions you will have to wait. If you have any questions, no matter what they are, give us a call at 888-965-3829.
